Johny Thomas Manimala a post graduate in Malayalam Language and Literature is presently working as a Sub Editor of 'Deepanalam', a socio-cultural weekly published from Palai. Though a journalist by profession, Johny Thomas is a young man of diverse talents. He writes short stories, humorous articles, essays etc. He is a coloumist, painter and a cartoonist with inborn talents.  He uses his pen, pencil and brush alike and his passion for art started during his school-college days.   Recently he published a book called, "Nirangal Nizhalukal". It is a collection of his humorous articles published in various periodicals of Kerala.  In it, he portrates 36 eminent personalities starting from E.M.S, poet Kunjunni, K. Karunakaran, Sukumar Azheekode, Mammootty, Mohanlal etc..   He looks them from different angles, peeps into their personalities, cuts them to size and place them on our show case, like the bonsai of modern times.  A wonderful feeling indeed!  When the readers burst into laugh, the personalities depicted too share it, as not a single line the pen portraits them.

Johny is a sensible painter and can be placed at par with any professionals in the field. As a talented cartoonist, he drew the caricatures of all the depicted in "Nirangal Nizhalukal ". He can picture anyone with ease with a few strokes.

A man of versatile talents Johny was awarded the 'Yuvachethana' award 2000 for his outstanding book "Nirangal Nizhalukal",  which is of rare phenomenon in Malayalam Literature.   In January 1989, Johny was selected for the prestigious award of the Kerala Cartoon Academy.
