MEMU service flagged off
The much-awaited Main-line Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) train, on the Ernakulam-Kollam route started its service yesterday.
Thousands of short distance passengers in the Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Kollam will benefit from the service.
Sources said the inaugural train was flagged off at 11 am from Ernakulam junction station.It will be two years since MEMU trains hit the tracks.
Two rakes have already been stationed at the Ernakulam junction station. The MEMU trains announced in the last two railway budgets, figure on the 2011 railway timetable along with their timings.
In this year’s budget a new MEMU service has been promised for the state on the Ernakulam-Thrissur sector.
