The resort is surrounded by forests and spice plantations. The architecture is inspired by local jungle dwellings. It is just a stones throw away from the Periyar Wildlife Reserve.
With no air conditioning, televisions or nightclubs, the Spice Village resort is an escape into the past. The cottages here are built with brick and log, the roof thatched with elephant grass (usually used to build tribal huts) woven in a traditional technique. Even though the resort has modern amenities like plumbing, comfortable beds and hot showers, it still keeps with it the old world style and charm.
