The Ayilyam Mahotsavam at Sree Nagaraja Swami Temple at Vettikode falls on the Malayalam month of Kanni (October). The temple is located at Mavelikkara of Alappuzha district. The celebration, which falls seven days prior to the Ayilyam day, attracts a large number of devotees. These days are blessed with many poojas, homes and kalasa poojas to increase the deity's power and to use the power to shower the blessings on worshippers.
One of the highlights of the festival is a ceremonial procession from the temple to Meppallil Illam, an ancient Brahmin home. By dusk, Sarpabali starts and concludes by around 9:30 pm. The temple will remain closed up to Brahma Muhoortha and after that, the Shuddi Kriyas will begin.
